WIKIS #16
I have been a fan of wikipedia for a long time although not realizing what a wiki really was in relation to anything other than searching. A great way to be interactive and pro-active in a library environment. Love the way anyone can input and how wikis draw on knowledge of the masses.

#15 Library Web 2.0

I needed to know some background to understand where information services could possibly be heading and found reading Tim O'Reillys 'What is Web' 2.0 very informative. The discussions about where we are heading start to resonate as possibilities for the future after exposure to new concepts and tools during this learning programme. I certainly don't think libraries will change quickly as we need to absorb new ideas and ways of interacting with technology and users of libraries. I do believe that we need to be able to deliver relevant content to users wherever they are and that our role in cyberspace may be as avatars or "super-librarians" helping negotiate the web. As Dr Wendy Schultz stated "libraries will still need experienced tour guides" in referring to packaging and promoting web 2.0.
Obviously we will need to be technologically savvy to keep our jobs or die out like the dinosaurs. Lucky for me I don't think I'll see books disappear in my lifetime.

#13 Del.icio.us
I like anything that allows me to connect with other sites of similar interests and have already discovered sites that I will be tagging once I set up a Delicious account from my home computer. Why try and re-invent the wheel when it seems like others have already done the work for me and I just need to link in. I am a little bit concerned about material that may compromise my computer, which has started to run very slowly and on running a scan has detected a number of ??????????? and deleted them.
#12 ROLLYO
Another toy to play with, oops, I mean tool. I do like the fact that we are or can create a personal space tailored to our needs, or the needs of the perceived user.
#11 LIBRARY THING
A great tool to link reader's with common interests. Useful application for libraries to promote books, or a great book club. Was simple to initiate but again cutting and pasting URLs had me scratching my head as I could not add a widget. Gave up for a week, came back to it, tried and it worked. Seems like I need a week to mull over some things.

FINDING FEEDS #9
Am trying to move on, but still find I am losing myself reading blogs and time seems to fly. Have come to the realization that what we are doing is bringing together a like community, and being able to keep up to date with what is happening within the community that our search may take us, on a global scale. A voice for the people.
Obviously the amount of information out there is huge so that having feeds of our choosing on our blog will alert others of a like mind to that blog. I found Google easy to navigate but I do like the format of Technorati and was simpler to add a feed to my blogroll.
Found a blog the other day on Technorati about a ukulele playing storyteller who published blogs on songs he uses with his ukulele. I thought they might be useful for a beginner with her 'rhyme time', so copied them for her. That same day a woman teaching a young child guitar came in to photocopy a song, no copyright was infringed, and was very pleased that I had another couple that where exactly what she was after. Will have to find him again and subscribe to his blog.

RSS FEEDS #8
Found creating feeds on bloglines not that difficult but trying to add a link to my blog has been a nightmare. I seem to be going around in circles and have wasted a lot of time reading and re-reading the instructions but end up none the wiser. All I want to do is add a feed icon onto my blog through blogroll???? Oh well, I'm sure all will become clear in time.

I HAVE COME A LONG WAY #7
I learnt to type on a manual typewriter thirty years ago and not long after electric typewriters were introduced which, I never had the need to master. Library catalogues consisted of cards and a lot of clerical work was carried out by a library assistant, so the need to learn was not there. Along comes the computer and was very reluctant to learn this technology but did as I needed to and could see the benefits. Now we have the Internet which is another advancement that enhances my job and something else to master. I am enthralled with what there is to learn on this course and it is slowly dawning on me that I will have a need for this knowledge, so am very grateful for this tool in which to navigate uncharted waters.

Testing 1 2 3 #5
Have uploaded photos from memory stick for the first time and with some help editing the photo in paint after giving up on flickr. Been a very long process and not sure what I have learnt as I have been all over the place. Tried flickr again and am frustrated so will give it a rest and collect my thoughts. Tried following instructions from tas666 but still drew a blank. Am excited by the possibilities of these sites and what is to come, just hope I can give it the time as I am easily distracted and end up going in circles. As you can tell by this movie I am still learning how to use my digital camera. #7

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF
Taken one hour to reset account details for this blog. I suppose with understanding it will become second nature, but at the moment I am in new territory which is both frustrating and somewhat interesting. A late start and little networking with peers at this stage which I hope will gain momentum. Grand Final fever abounded yesterday so blogging took a back seat as revelling continued throughout the night both from neighbours and son. Some of us decided to celebrate at a very fine cafe just out of Kilmore and forget the event was taking place. #3
